I am the Hero of My Spiritual Journey

(Gently adapted from May 31st's Courage to Change in Alanon.)

Through the Twelve Step recovery model, I am becoming the hero of my own stories, embarking on a spiritual journey--one of self-discovery.

A hero is forged by great challenges before gaining rewards at the journey's end.
Self-knowledge has become my path to personal freedom. The steps provide direction and give me skills to cope with the obstacles that get in the way of self-knowledge.

I like that I can use  the program and the support of our fellowship each day.  As the reading shares, "[I can] explore [my] hidden motives, secrets, buried memories and unrecognized talents.  By drawing upon the wisdom of our 12-steps, principles and tools, [I can] learn to overcome obstacles to personal growth, such as the effects of emotional abuse and a variety of 'defects' of character.

[As each of us is] guided on our spiritual journey by a Power greater than ourselves, the steps we take must be our own.  Only by facing the darkness can we find the treasure--the light and joy of emerging released from all that has held us back."

"The world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles.  [O]nly by a spiritual journey.. [do] we arrive at the ground at our feet, and learn to be at home." Wendell Berry

  1. I wish that more would take the steps. Many go to meetings only and have a difficult time. The solution is in the steps.
