Quieting the Loudest Voice in my Head

Today's Reading from Courage to Change begins with,

"In the face of seemingly impossible problems, it is easy to believe that our most negative thoughts reflect the truth. They plead the worst case scenario in a very convincing way, until it almost seems frivolous to consider a positive outcome. Yet the loudest voice is not necessarily the truest."

Feelings can be insistent! But I don't need to let the voice in my head use my confusion and fear to predict a worst-case scenario. I can't be expected to know what the outcome of my choices will be. I may indeed be disappointed tomorrow if things don't work out to my satisfaction. What if I let myself accept that "a positive outcome is just as likely as a negative one?"

It helps me to know that when I am peaceful, I can accept a complicated situation. If I don't allow my negative voice to yell (unchallenged) in my ear, I can be aware of alternate solutions and... new possibilities of action. Still, even as I choose to act differently, I need to remember: I am powerless over the results of my actions.

I will try to make wise choices today, still knowing the future is not in my hands. The future's not mine to know. Let me trust that a Higher Power can (and will) use whatever happens to further my growth.

Today's Reminder is a good affirmation for me:

"Today I will place the future in my Higher Power's hands... by turning it over, it can be used for my good."

This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it. Ralph Waldo Emerson

  2. I am glad not to be filled with negativism these days. I am mostly very positive about all things.
